Home inventory makes rebuilding after a disaster easier

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - If the first phase of terror is living through a natural disaster, the second phase is having to rebuild after a home and everything in it has been destroyed.

State Farm Insurance Agent Skip Highfill said in his 37 years of experience, he has seen how starting over is somewhat easier for people who planned in case of disaster by taking inventory of their personal belongings.

"After what we've seen in Oklahoma, it brings home how important this is," he said.

Jonesboro city hall gets new flag by Memorial Day

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- Downtown Jonesboro had eyes in the sky Thursday.

A tower climbing crew from Iowa was working on the flagpole on top of the new city hall.

Mayor Harold Perrin says he hopes to have the new American flag hanging above the building by the Memorial Day weekend.

Jonesboro man charged with selling "bath salts"

A Jonesboro man faces multiple charges after police say a search of his home turned up marijuana, LSD and bath salts.

Micah Roller, 23, is charged with trafficking a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance with the purpose to deliver, and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana).

According to the probable cause affidavit, on Tuesday police received information that Roller was selling MDMC/Methylone, also known as “bath salts.”

Churches, businesses lead massive OK donation effort

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- Several groups around Jonesboro are coming together to collect items for Oklahoma tornado victims.

"When tragedy happens like that, people want to help, that's part
of our nature, we want to help, we want a tangible way to do that,"said Johnny Hutchinson, pastor of Highland Drive Baptist Church.

Police searching for person of interest in shooting injuring 3 year old

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Police in Jonesboro are investigating a shooting that happened overnight that injured a toddler.

According to Sgt. Lyle Waterworth, officers were called early Thursday morning to 2216 Fairfield Drive in regards to shots fired and that a child may have been hurt.

Police say they found a bullet hole in the front door when they arrived. A three-year-old boy which had been sleeping on the couch at the time of the shooting was hit, Sgt. Waterworth stated.

ASU opts out of gun law, approves tuition increase

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT/AP) – Arkansas State University is yet another institution to opt out of the new state gun law.

The board of trustees met Thursday to discuss the proposal that would allow faculty and staff to carry concealed handguns on campus under the law. A tuition rate increase of about 3.5% for undergraduates was also approved during the meeting.

The University of Arkansas Board Of Trustees also voted unanimously Thursday to ban concealed firearms on campus.
