Dr. Shane Speights has been named vice president of medical affairs for St. Bernards.

He earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Mo., and completed a family medicine residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Area Health Education Center-Northeast (AHEC-Northeast) in Jonesboro.

VFW honoring troops with bar-be-cue lunch

 

A bar-be-cue honoring local veterans will be held this Saturday, May 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Roy Wiles Post #1991 located at 300 Airport Road in Jonesboro.

“All veterans are invited; but, especially young veterans and their families,” said co-chair and Disabled American Veterans member Billy Cribbs.

He said the event is a way for the Craighead County Veterans Monument Foundations and the VFW “to thank veterans for their service to this country.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obese children are more likely to have risk factors for high cholesterol and blood pressure.

They are also more likely to become obese as adults which puts them at even greater risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, stroke and several types of cancer.

To combat this epidemic the NEA Baptist Charitable Foundation is offering two free 3-week summer sessions to help kids and their families live a fit life.

Dollar General needs 10,000 new employees.

To fill that tall order, the company will host a career fair this Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dollar General store located at 2118 S. Caraway.

Dollar General representatives will be available to discuss opportunities, receive resumes and discuss long-term opportunities with candidates.

Mike Dollins "Cruizing" to Bluesday Tuesday

 

For tonight's Bluesday Tuesday concert in Newport, KASU Radio brings back Mike Dollins and the Cruize Brothers.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Newport Country Club, 703 Walker Dr., and is free to the public. KASU will pass the hat for the band.

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Saying "I want to give back to the community". You've heard it, and probably even said it.  

It means different things to different people. When you think of medical professionals 'giving back'  fundraiser's and volunteering may come to mind.  

But for two Jonesboro doctors 'giving back' means gearing up.

NEA Food bank can continue program with new grant

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas
received a grant on Monday that will help feed the children of Region 8.

The Arkansas Community Foundation awarded the food bank $1,000.
This was made possible through the St. Francis County Community Foundation.

The money will be used at the Forrest City School District.

Vicki Pillow is the Director of Development for the Food Banks and
said while this money will be a big help to the students in that area, there are
a lot of children still waiting for help.
