Bono UMC serving up free food, fellowship in June

Taking that passage to heart, the Bono United Methodist Church will serve free lunches each Saturday of June.

From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. everyone is invited to come eat lunch and enjoy their fellowship.  All ages are welcome.

The lunches will be served June 15, 22 and 29.

The church is located at 202 East College in Bono.

Walk this Saturday to raise Chiari awareness

This Saturday, June 15, take an evening stroll on the Arkansas State University campus while raising awareness about Chiari malformation and related disorders.

Chiari malformation is a brain defect that affects about 1 in 1,000 children.  The symptoms include headaches, dizziness, facial pain, muscle weakness, sleep disorders, and impaired coordination.

The 2013 Chiari and Syringomyelia Foundation’s unite@night Walk will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the old track at Olympic Drive across from the Convocation Center on the ASU campus.

Jonesboro man appointed to lottery position

JONESBORO, AR
(KAIT) – A Jonesboro native has been appointed to the Arkansas Lottery
Commission.

According to a
Monday news release from the lottery commission, Doug Pierce was recently
appointed by to a six-year term by Arkansas House Speaker Davy Carter. Pierce
replaces Mike Malone of Fayetteville.

The commission news
release states Pierce is a 1995 graduate of Arkansas State University and has
held several positions in the biotechnology industry. He is the southeast U.S.
division sales manager for biotechnology firm Genentech as well.

Summer is heating up and so is the fun at the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library.

In fact, the library is so busy they can’t keep all the fun inside.

During the months of June and July, the library will offer several off-site programs every Wednesday at the Parker Park Community Center, 1506 North Church St., and at the Mall at Turtle Creek, 3000 East Highland Dr.

Kids are invited to “Dig Into Reading” this summer with PaleoJoe.

Registration underway for autism conference

Registration underway for autism conference

The Autism Association of Northeast Arkansas will hold its Seventh Annual Autism Conference on Saturday, July 13, from 7:30 a.m. to noon at St. Bernards Auditorium in Jonesboro.

The training session is designed for and open to special education advocates, parents, educators and the community.

Registration is $25 per person.  Vendors are also welcome to set up a booth for $25.

Shepherd's Fold collecting food, supplies

Shepherd’s Fold is hosting a food and supply drive with BancorpSouth.

You can drop off donations anytime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at both Paragould bank branches during the month of June.

The banks are located at 1833 Linwood Dr. and 4507 West Kingshighway.

Meanwhile, tickets are still available for The Fold’s Second Annual Banquet, which will be held Friday, July 26, at Eastside Baptist Church.  Tickets are $25 each and may be purchased from The Fold or at PostNet, 2503 West Kingshighway.

Arkansas State’s Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) and Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce will present a professional e-mail marketing workshop at the ASU Delta Center for Economic Development, Thursday, June 13, from 1-4 p.m. and again from 6-9 p.m.

“E-mail Marketing Made Easy” will be conducted by Herb Lawrence, director of the ASU SBTDC.
