Tips on how to beat the heat in Region 8

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - We all want to have fun in the sun but when the heat starts to reach high temperatures It's important to remember a few things to avoid heat -related injuries.

"I drink a ton of water and I won't let myself go without getting in some shade for very long," said Jessica Waldrupe.

If she knows her and her son will be out in the heat, she'll make sure to give him what he needs to stay hydrated.

Local minister remembers man who drowned in Gulf Shores

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- Family and friends remember Warren H. Moore of Jonesboro, who died Monday after being pulled under the water by strong currents.

Moore was trying to save a woman caught in a rip current west of the Gulf State Pier near Royal Palms condo.

Moore's former pastor, Jimmy Young of Nettleton Church of Christ shares what he will remember about Moore and the lessons he's learned from his friend.

"He was well respected and highly thought of so to learn of his death and to find that he is no longer with us is a painful thing," Young said.

Name released in fatal Highway 18 accident

NEEDHAM, AR (KAIT) – One woman was killed in a two car accident Tuesday morning on Highway 18 near Needham.

According to Arkansas State Police, Rachel Forbis Robertson, 34, was driving south on County Road 945, and failed to stop for an oncoming 18-wheeler.

Police say Robertson and the semi collided, sending the car over 300 feet off the side of Highway 18, where it collided with a culvert and ripped the car in half.

Robertson was killed in the accident.

Jonesboro man among drowning victims in Gulf Shores, waters now open

Double red flags are a signal to beachgoers that the water is closed.

GULF SHORES, AL (KAIT/WFSA) – A Jonesboro man is the fourth victim of strong currents in the Gulf of Mexico after three other people drowned less than 24 hours before. The drownings had caused the closure of all the waters in Gulf Shores to the public.

According to Baldwin County Coroner Stan Vinson who spoke with AL.com , Warren H. Moore, 62, of Jonesboro died Monday after being pulled under the water by strong currents. Vinson says Moore was trying to save a woman caught in a rip current west of the Gulf State Pier near Royal Palms condo.

Jonesboro E911 tells Region 8 News police and rescue crews are on the scene of a "very serious accident" involving a car and 18-wheeler on Highway 18.

According to an email from Jeff Presley, E911 director, the crash is located in the Needham area just west of Lake City.

Traffic is backed up in the area.  Please, use caution.

Region 8 News has a crew on the way to the scene and will have more information as details emerge.
