Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Ethel Waters, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington and Mahalia Jackson.  All great ladies of blues and jazz.

On Saturday, October 27, Sandra Reaves-Phillips will pay tribute to these luminaries in the second presentation of the 2012-13 Fowler Center Series at Arkansas State University.

“The Late Great Ladies of Blues and Jazz” concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Riceland Hall of Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr.

Reaves-Phillips, a jazz and blues singer and Broadway actress, will play the role of each of these musical greats.

In a review of the show, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote:

“What Reaves-Phillips does, most admirably, is momentarily invite the audience into these women’s lives, experiencing not only their music, but also their fashion style, attitude (often lots of it), personality, background, and what they went through during difficult times . . .”

Tickets are $30 and $20 for adults, $23 and $15 for senior citizens and students, $24 and $16 for faculty and staff, and $10 and $6 for ASU students with a current I.D.

All seating is reserved.  Tickets may be purchased at the ASU Central Box Office in the Convocation Center, 217 Olympic Dr. in Jonesboro, or by calling (870) 972-ASU1 or (888) ASU-FANS.  Tickets are also available online at www2.astate.edu/tickets and from the Fowler Center at www.yourfowlercenter.com.
