Classical guitarist to perform at ASU

Classical guitarist, Vladmir Gorbach, will perform Tueday, October 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall, 2412 Quapaw Way, at Arkansas State University.

It is the second event in the 2012-13 Lecture Concert Series.  Admission is free.

According to a news release from ASU, Gorbach grew up in Siberia, Russia, where he graduated with honors from the Music College of Novosibirsk.  He has won 10 first-place prizes in international competitions, including the 2011 Guitar Foundation of America International Competition.

The Ritz Classic Movie Series continues today with the notorious sci-fi classic Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Considered by some critics to be the “worst movie ever made,” it is a cult classic.  According to the website Rotten Tomatoes, some claim “it’s too amusing” and its “ineptitude added to its charm.”

The Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library wraps up its 2012 Concert Series on Tuesday, October 2, with what’s expected to be a knee-slapping, rip-snorting good time.

The bluegrass band “Bucksnort Hill” will perform at 6 p.m. in the “Freedom Plaza” on the library lawn.

The band is comprised of Danny Shaw on vocals and the dobro; Kelly Rogers on vocals and mandolin; Tammy Shaw playing the upright bass; Lou Ann Shaw on vocals and guitar; and Bob Shaw on vocals and the banjo.

Head to Downtown Paragould for some toe-tapping County Line Grass

Expect plenty of toe tapping and maybe even some dancing in the aisles when Tommy Brown and the County Line Grass perform Monday, September 24, at the Collins Theatre, 120 West Emerson St. in Paragould.

The concert, which starts at 7 p.m., is part of the Bluegrass Monday concert series presented by KASU 91.9 FM.

Though admission is free, KASU will “pass the hat” during the show to collect money to pay the musicians.  The suggested donation is $5 per person.

One-man show brings Duke Ellington's music to life

 

Actor Cedric Liqueur, who has performed with London’s Royal Shakespeare Academy, will return to the stage of The Ritz in Blytheville for one show only on Saturday, October 6, at 7 p.m. 

He will appear as Duke Ellington in his one-man solo presentation “Rocks In My Bed: Duke Ellington and His Music.”

Liqueur’s one-man show chronicles Ellington’s and was developed with the cooperation and input of Ellington’s family and estate.
