Fundraiser for young "medical miracle" far from home

Today is the last day to order a smoked Boston butt and help a little girl who is considered by many to be a "medical miracle."

Like most girls her age, Ella Brewer loves anything pink and riding her tricycle.

But, unlike others, she suffers from a rare disease.  She recently underwent a 14-hour surgery to remove her pancreas.  Doctors at Amplatz Children's Hospital in Minnesota then harvested islet cells to inject into her liver to produce insulin.

The surgery was a success, but Ella will have to remain in the hospital for several more months while she recuperates.

As you can imagine, being 814 miles away from home is taking its toll on her family.  Ella and her mom, Crystal, have been in Minnesota since March.  Her dad, Scott, was there for the surgery last week.  Meanwhile her big brother, Eathon, and Bolt, the family dog, are waiting for the time when the whole family is reunited.

To help the family pay for their medical and travel expenses Ditta Door & Hardware, 3620 Stadium Blvd. in Jonesboro, is hosting a Boston butt fundraiser.

The butts, which weigh 7-8 pounds, are $30 each.  The butts will be available for pickup this Saturday, April 21, but your order must be in by close of business today.

Orders are being accepted at Ditta Door & Hardware, Wilcoxson's Kids Place, Interior Design Plus, J. Christopher Toys, or Liberty Bank.

You can also make a donation to a special account established for the Brewer family at Liberty Bank.
