Every week the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas provides emergency food assistance to 5,100 people. Since 1983, the Food Bank has distributed more than 25 million pounds of food.
Now the Food Bank has a new facility to meet the demands of feeding the hungry.
On Wednesday state and local officials, including Gov. Mike Beebe, attended the grand opening ceremony of the Food Bank’s new $8 million 56,000 square foot facility.
The Donald W. Reynolds Charitable Food Distribution Center is located at 3414 One Place in the Henry P. Jones III Business Park in Jonesboro.
The facility includes increased freezer and refrigerated capacity, as well as multiple shipping and receiving docks, warehouse space, a community room and a demonstration kitchen.
The Food Bank serves 12 counties in Northeast Arkansas: Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Greene, Jackson, Lawrence, Mississippi, Poinsett, Randolph, St. Francis and Woodruff.
