Scouts hosting BBQ cook-off, horseshoe pitch

 

The Imboden Boy Scouts are hosting a BBQ Cook-Off and Horseshoe Pitch on Saturday, April 27, at Imboden Park.

Entry fees are $50 for Boston butts, $50 for ribs and $75 for both.  Prizes will be awarded in each category, as well as a Grand Champion.

The horseshoe pitch is open to two-person teams.  The fee to enter is $20 per team with awards going to the top three finishers.

The Women’s Crisis Center of Northeast Arkansas has been selected for IBERIABANK’s “i Gives Back” community outreach program.

Now through June the bank will collect the following items from the organization’s wish list:

On Tuesday, President Obama ordered all U.S. flags be flown at half-staff as a sign of respect to those who died in the Boston Marathon bombings.

In accordance with the president’s proclamation, Governor Mike Beebe has also ordered all Arkansas State flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset Saturday, April 20.

ABC News reports three people were killed and 176 others were injured in Monday’s dual bombings at the marathon’s finish line.  An 8-year-old boy was among those killed.

On Wednesday, April 17, the last two steel beams will be hoisted into place at the new Paragould Medical Park, located at 4000 Linwood Drive.

To commemorate the event, Nabholz Construction invites the public to attend a topping out ceremony at 10 a.m.

The 60,000 square foot facility is a joint venture between Arkansas Methodist Medical Center and St. Bernards.  It will house primary care physicians and a number of other offices and services related to both medical centers.

Pinch the tails, suck the heads and help Habitat for Humanity.

The second annual Crawfish for a Cause will be held Saturday, April 27, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the ASU Farmer’s Market, located at Aggie Road and Stadium Boulevard.

For $25 you can eat-in or take-out a crawfish dinner while enjoying the sounds of Souled Out.

Sponsored by the 2013 Leadership Class of the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce, advance tickets can be purchased by calling Blake Johnson at (870) 489-2569 or Beth Kirkley at (870) 351-0447.  Tickets may also be purchased at the event.

On Saturday, May 11, you have a chance to stamp out hunger.

The National Association of Letter Carriers will hold its annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive that day.

All you will need to do is set a bag of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before your regular mail deliver.

The postal workers will do the rest.

Food collected during the drive will benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas, which provides emergency food assistance to 5,100 people each week.

Yard sale, fish fry set at BUMC

 

Brookland United Methodist Church will host a yard sale and a fish fry on Saturday, April 13, at 301 West Matthews in Brookland. 

The yard sale will be from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., in conjunction with Brookland's citywide sale, with all proceeds benefitting children's and youth activities at the church. There will be a variety of items including clothes, toys, books, housewares and furniture.

The church will also host a fish fry from 5-7 p.m. Fish, chicken and all the trimmings will be served. Donations will be accepted for the church's roof fund.
