Former cop accused of duct taping, robbing his mom | Crime
Police say a former Corning cop taped up and robbed his mom, stole her car then went on a shopping spree with his wife in Jonesboro.
Shane Adam Neill, 39, and Brandy Ann Neill, 40, are charged with theft by receiving, fraudulent use of a credit card and fraud or deceit to procure narcotic drugs/prescription.
The couple was arrested Tuesday afternoon after Clay County sheriff’s investigators “pinged” the couple’s cell phone to McDonald’s , 111 E. Highland Dr.
When Officer Jo Carol Carter arrived at the restaurant she found the couple in a pickup truck reportedly stolen out of Poplar Bluff, MO.
Inside the truck, Carter said she also found a “large stack” of debit and credit cards belonging to Dianne Neill of Peach Orchard, as well as numerous items of newly purchased merchandise, multiple purses, cell phones and other belongings.
In the back of the truck, beneath a tarp, Officer Carter reported finding “multiple dark blue plastic totes” filled with a large amount of property and a large flat-screen TV.
According to the police report, receipts for many of the items were found showing that they were purchased with the stolen credit cards on Monday and Tuesday.
During the investigation, Jonesboro police learned Neill and his wife were accused of robbing his mother Dianne Neill at her home Monday night.
Detective Cody Carter of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said the couple used duct tape to tie up the woman, then stole her purse and car. The woman’s vehicle was later found abandoned in the county.
Carter also told Jonesboro investigators that Neill was a former police officer in Corning and might still have firearms in his possession.
After robbing his mother, Jonesboro police say the Neills attempted to get her prescription for Vicodin transferred from the Paragould Walgreen’s to the store at 1330 S. Caraway.
The store’s pharmacist told police he had received a call from another officer that the prescription was possibly forged. He said he put a note on the chart stating the prescription shouldn’t be picked up.
Jonesboro police contacted Poplar Bluff police and learned that the truck the Neills were driving had been stolen Monday morning from the parking lot of Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. A Malden man told police in his rush to get into the hospital he had left the keys in the vehicle.
According to hospital records, Brandy Neill had sought treatment there Sunday night.
She reportedly said an unknown man attacked her at the couple’s apartment in Neelyville and tried to rape her. Brandy Neill claimed the man beat and pepper sprayed her.
Poplar Bluff investigators say Brandy Neill was discharged from the hospital around 7 a.m. Monday and the couple was at the hospital at the same time the pickup truck was stolen.
