Man lands in jail after flipping the bird in court | Crime
When Craighead County District Court Judge Keith Blackman entered the courtroom Monday afternoon, Jonesboro police say he was greeted by a one-finger salute.
Officer Michael McQuay said while he was filling out paperwork for court he noticed James John Everling, 52, with his hand in the air.
At first McQuay said he didn’t think anything of it. Then the court clerk asked if he had “seen the man in the audience sticking up his middle finger to everyone.”
At that point McQuay started paying attention to Everling.
When Judge Blackman got about halfway through the docket, McQuay said Everling got up from his seat. As he was walking toward the courtroom door Everling “held up both hands with both middle fingers extended toward everyone in court,” McQuay stated.
McQuay followed Everling into the hall and asked who he was giving the middle finger to in court.
Everling looked at him with “bloodshot, watery eyes” and replied “I ain’t flipping off anybody” in a slurred speech, according to the report.
Everling was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Sheriff’s Department where he was cited for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
