JPD: Mom tests positive for meth after baby wanders off | Crime
Jonesboro police say a woman whose 1-year-old baby was found wandering around in a parking lot tested positive for meth.
Friday morning Officer Bryan Davis was called to the 900-block of Links Drive.
The assistant manager of The Greens apartments said he was making his morning rounds when he spotted the baby, wearing nothing but a diaper, walking barefoot in the parking lot.
He then went door to door searching for the parents. But, no one recognized the child.
Davis was also unsuccessful in locating the baby’s parents and called a Department of Children and Family Services agent who took the child into her custody.
After the baby was taken to DCFS, 26-year-old Jamie Dugger arrived at the apartment clubhouse.
She was “visibly hysterical,” asking if anyone had seen her baby, Davis reported.
He then took Dugger to the DCFS office at 1800 Browns Lane where she was administered a drug test to obtain custody of her child.
A DCFS investigator told police Dugger tested positive for methamphetamine.
At first Dugger said “she had used in January, but not since then.”
Later, after a search of her home by police and DCFS that reportedly turned up nothing, Dugger admitted she used meth on Wednesday, Davis said.
Aside from one hour of sleep, Dugger told Davis she had been awake until 3:30 Friday morning when she fell asleep on the couch with her baby.
At 10 a.m. Friday she awoke and realized her child was missing.
Dugger was taken into custody and transported back to DCFS where she was cited and released on a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a minor-third degree.
