A/C, copper thefts heating up | Crime
Just like the temperatures, the number of copper thefts is on the rise.
Within the last two days, Jonesboro police have investigated $6,500 worth of thefts. In one case someone stole a 3.5 ton air conditioning unit.
Gregory Lamb of G&K Services, 3235 E. Matthews, told investigators the unit was hooked up and working when he left Friday night.
When he returned to work Monday morning, the $3,500 unit was gone.
Crooks are also suspected of stealing $3,000 worth of copper wiring and tubing from 1400 Arrowhead Farm Road.
James Carmichael told police someone stole the copper lines and wires for the heat and air unit he had just installed.
At this time, police have no suspects in either case.
