JPD searching for car theft suspect | Crime
Jonesboro police are searching for a man suspected of stealing a pizza delivery driver’s car then running from an officer.
Cody Cavender, 25, is suspected of stealing a gold Toyota Camry from the Domino’s parking lot, 2508 Stadium Blvd., Thursday night.
The delivery driver told police when he parked his car in front of the store he noticed a man roaming around the parking lot.
A few minutes later, the car and the man were gone.
After taking the car, police say Cavender stopped at the Flash Market, 910 Magnolia Rd., where he pumped an undisclosed amount of fuel then drove off.
While investigating the drive off and stolen car report, Officer Keri Varner said she drove to 2517 Duncan Rd. to check the trailer park to see if the vehicle might be in the area.
When she got to the dead end, Varner said she found the Camry and saw a man walk into a nearby trailer home, according to her report.
Varner went to the mobile home and asked for Varner to come out. When he came to the door, she said he appeared “very nervous and jittery.”
After he refused to put his hands behind his back, Varner told Cavender she would Taser him if he did not comply.
When Varner pulled her Taser out of the holster, Cavender took off running. She deployed the weapon, but she said “it did not have full contact” and was not effective on him.
A K9 unit was called in to help search for Cavender, but police were unable to find him.
The car’s driver was notified and he came to the scene to retrieve his car.
