Rape suspect found hiding beneath bed | Crime
A Jonesboro man faces kidnapping and rape charges after police say he tied up a woman and forced her to perform a sex act.
Melvin Johnson, 33, is being held at the Craighead County Detention Center on felony rape and kidnapping charges, as well as a misdemeanor charge of assault.
Thursday night police responded to a disturbance in the 1500-block of Woodfield.
The victim told officers Johnson entered her home uninvited and “immediately started threatening to tie her up, lock her children in their rooms, and burn the house down with them inside,” according to court records.
Johnson then reportedly forced the children into their bedrooms, except for one child.
Police say Johnson tied the woman to a chair using a belt and extension cord “then forced her to perform oral sex on him for several minutes” until he was interrupted by officers knocking on the door.
According to the affidavit, officers entered the home and found Johnson hiding beneath a bed.
