Law office burglar looking for files, police say | Crime
Jonesboro police say whoever broke into a local law office didn’t want the computers or laptops. Instead, they were looking for confidential records.
Tuesday morning officers were dispatched to the Cahoon & Benton Law Firm, 519 W. Washington, regarding an overnight burglary.
Several laptops, computers and other valuables were not taken or moved from the office, according to the initial police report.
Instead, it appeared that the suspect was “interested in looking through the files,” the report stated.
The only things in the office that appeared to have been disturbed, according to police, were the filing cabinets and the desks in the office.
Benton Smith told police the burglar pried open his office door and took an undisclosed amount of cash from his desk. The culprit is also suspected of taking $20 from an office money bag.
Both Smith and David Cahoon said they did not know who could have broken into their office.
