Vandals flood apartment, cause $30,000 in damages | Crime
The owner of a newly built apartment will have to do some major repairs before he can rent it after vandals did major damage.
Jonesboro police were called to the apartment in the 4200-block of Fonda Jo at the Savannah Hills apartment complex just before 8 Wednesday morning.
The owner said when he arrived at the newly constructed unoccupied apartment he noticed water on the front porch.
Inside he found the “entire downstairs was full of water and the ceiling had caved in from water upstairs soaking the material,” the incident report stated. The upstairs was also flooded.
The owner told police someone had plugged the kitchen sink and turned on the water. The culprits also cut the side sprayer, allowing it to leak. Upstairs he discovered the washer hose had been cut. The upstairs bathtub and bathroom sink were also plugged and the water was turned on.
According to police, it’s estimated the repair cost will be $25-30,000.
Officers did discover two cigarette butts in the apartment. They were taken for processing. No other evidence was found.
