Police: Bootlegger back behind bars | Crime
A Jonesboro man is back behind bars on bootlegging charges.
John P. Scott, 65, was arrested Monday night following a traffic stop on a charge of “sale, barter or possession for sale or barter in a dry area, fourth offense.”
Around 7:30 p.m. Officer William Brumfield stopped Scott for making an improper lane change at the intersection of Johnson Avenue and Scott Street.
During the stop Brumfield stated he could see “liquor bottles, bags and money inside the vehicle.”
After learning that Scott was on probation, Brumfield asked Scott to step out of the vehicle for a probation search.
When Scott got out of his 2000 Hyundai, a small baggie containing 2 grams of marijuana fell to the ground, the officer stated in his report.
Brumfield placed Scott under arrest and searched him, reportedly finding in Scott’s right back pocket another plastic baggie containing 3 more grams of marijuana.
While searching the car, Brumfield stated he found a “cooler of cold beer, several bottles of gin, brandy, bags and money.”
Brumfield took Scott to the Craighead County Detention Center where he was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.
