Women accused of drug deal with child present | Crime
Two women face multiple charges, including child endangerment, after officers say they conducted a drug deal with a small child present.
On Monday, March 26, officers arrested 22-year-old Crystal Smith of Parkin and 43-year-old Peggy Edwards of Jonesboro.
Edwards is accused of buying crack cocaine from Smith in the parking lot of the Dollar General Store, 300 S. Gee St.
According to the police report, a young boy was standing in the passenger area by the console of Smith's car when the drug buy went down.
Officers say a search of Smith's car turned up a small piece of crack cocaine. They also say they found a plastic container containing two crack pipes and other drug paraphernalia in Edwards' car.
The report states Edwards told officers she had swallowed the crack cocaine she had just purchased from Smith and had hidden a crack pipe inside her pants.
According to the report, Edwards was taken to St. Bernards Regional Medical Center where she was examined and nurses removed the pipe from her body.
Smith was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a minor. Edwards is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence. Both women are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday for a probable cause hearing.
