Church trespassing suspect tells police "demons" made him do it | Crime
A man accused of entering a Jonesboro church after hours reportedly told investigators "demons" made him do it.
At 12:30 a.m. Friday, April 13, Jonesboro police were called to Walnut Street Baptist Church, 1910 Scenic Dr.
When the officer arrived he reported finding Gary Blake Watkins, 49, of Jonesboro, and a 16-year-old boy in a fenced-in area of the church.
According to the officer's report, Watkins said he and the boy had entered the church through an unlocked door.
Watkins said that "demons were after him and he came to the church to get onto holy ground," the officer reported.
Watkins reportedly first saw the demons at his house and decided he needed to get somewhere safe. Watkins told the officer he took the boy with him to the church as protection, according to the incident report.
The boy told the officer, according to the report, that when they arrived at the church Watkins opened the door and started yelling at him "to run inside so he did."
When asked if he had used any illegal drugs, Watkins told the officer he had "used meth earlier," according to the report.
Watkins was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and drunk, insane and disorderly conduct.
