Speeding stop ends in meth arrest

A Jonesboro man stopped for speeding wound up in the Craighead County Detention Center on drug charges.

Derek C. Vance, 37, was stopped Friday morning after a Jonesboro police officer reported seeing him speeding down Willow Road.

After a brief chase, the officer reported Vance stopped on Progress Road.  When he got out of his pickup truck a baggy of meth fell onto the ground, according to the police report.

While searching Vance's truck, the officer reported finding a large Buck lockblade knife.

Vance was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (felony), DWI-operation of a vehicle during DWI license suspension or revocation, carrying a weapon and speeding.
