Cigarette purchase leads to shots fired | Crime
A Jonesboro man told police a stop at a local convenience store for a package of cigarettes ended with him being chased and shot at.
The shooting happened just after 10:30 Tuesday night in the 600-block of Stratford.
The victim told police he used a $100 bill to purchase a pack of cigarettes at Adoosh Mini-Market on Gee Street. He reportedly said a man behind him saw the purchase and the change he received. He told officers the man then asked him if he wanted to buy some marijuana. The victim said he declined, then left the store.
As he was walking home, the victim told police the man approached him with a gun drawn and told him to “drop everything he had.” When the suspect began to struggle with the gun, the victim ran from him. The victim said the man shot at him two or three times before getting into a gold Mercury Marquis and leaving the scene.
Investigators reported finding a shell casing in the yard and a bullet hole on the outside of a home. Inside the home, they found the bullet.
Police have requested the surveillance video from the convenience store.
