Woman tells police there's nothing in car except "bag of crack"

Jonesboro police arrested Patricia Ann Craig, 35, of Brookland early Friday morning after she reportedly told an officer he wouldn’t find anything in her car except for a "bag of crack.”

According to the officer’s report, Craig was sitting in a car at Greensboro Road and North Caraway with her hazard lights on.  She reportedly told the officer she had run out of gas and was waiting for someone.  When the officer offered to stay with her until help arrived, he said Craig appeared “very nervous” and insisted on walking to Johnson Avenue.

The officer took Craig into custody after learning through dispatch that she was wanted on 26 warrants.

While checking her vehicle, the officer reported finding a small bag of suspected crack cocaine in plain view on the driver’s seat.  According to the report, when he asked Craig for permission to search the vehicle, she said he wouldn’t “find anything but the bag of crack.”  Craig also reportedly told the officer she spilled the bag while trying to hide it.

A search of Craig’s car and belongings also reportedly turned up a spoon with white residue on it.  According to the report, Craig told the officer “I forgot that was in there.  I use that to burn the crack down.  There is also a can that I use to smoke the crack in the other bag in my backseat.”

Craig was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where she was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and non-payment of fines.  She’s also being held on an out of town warrant.
