JPD K9 unit sniffs out six pounds of pot | Crime
A traffic stop Friday resulted in Jonesboro police seizing six pounds of suspected marijuana.
While on general patrol PROWL Unit investigator Blake Bristow stopped a white GMC Yukon driven by Larcel Harris, 40, of Jonesboro for a traffic violation.
In his report, Bristow said he knew “Harris was involved in the distribution of large amounts of marijuana.” Bristow then deployed his “trained and certified drug sniffing canine, Dirk.”
According to Bristow’s report, Dirk alerted on the back door on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Bristow reportedly found a box on the passenger seat. Inside the box he reported finding “three separate plastic bags that contained six pounds of suspected marijuana” worth an estimated $5,100.
Harris was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where deputies reportedly found $1,494 in cash in his pocket.
Harris was charged with felony possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana) with the purpose to deliver. A bond hearing is scheduled for Monday at 1 p.m.
