Crooks pry, ax their way into cars | Crime
Someone was obviously determined to steal a DVD player from a Jonesboro man’s car.
Police say the culprit pried at the car top until they broke open the door.
The break-in happened sometime between 3 and 5 a.m. Thursday in the 2200-block of Sybel Cove.
According to the police report, once inside the 2002 Chevy Impala, the crook broke the dash out to remove the DVD/stereo system. The thief also opened the trunk and stole a 15-inch speaker and amplifier.
Police say the crook stole more than $600 worth of items and did at least $500 worth of damage to the car.
In another case, police say someone used an ax to break into a Jeep parked on a local hospital parking lot.
The victim told police the damage happened sometime between 11:30 p.m. Thursday when he arrived at work and 7:15 a.m. Friday.
According to police the vandal used an ax, which was found nearby, to break out the driver’s side window and cut the vinyl top.
The victim said nothing was taken from the vehicle.
