Downtown convenience store robbed

Jonesboro police are investigating an early morning hold-up at the Downtown Express, 215 W. Huntington Ave.

According to the clerk, an African-American man entered the store around 5:30 a.m. Thursday and asked for a pack of cigarettes.  The clerk said he turned to get the cigarettes from a shelf behind him.  When he turned back to the counter, he said the man had a “black handgun” pointed at him.

According to the incident report, the suspect told the clerk, “Give me what you have and don’t call the police or I will shoot you.”

After getting $300, the gunman ran away.

The clerk told police he had seen the man in the store before.  He described the gunman as being six-feet tall, with an unkempt beard.  The man was wearing a white shirt, shorts and a hat.
