JPD: Teen steals, wrecks car while mom sleeps | Crime
Jonesboro police say while a mom slept her 15-year-old son took her car out for a joyride and crashed it into a neighbor’s home.
Early Tuesday morning Officer Billy Anderson was dispatched to a home in the 1100-block of French regarding a burglary.
The homeowner said sometime during the night someone “entered her residence and stole her keys and car.”
According to Officer Anderson’s initial report, the suspect had “turned several things over in the living room and hall,” including a couch and chair.
The victim and her son said they didn’t hear anything.
While investigating Officer Anderson received a call from dispatch regarding a car that had crashed through a fence and into the side of a home in the 900-block of French.
The owner told Anderson after hitting the house the suspect said “his mother was on her way to get him.”
Inside the car, Officer Anderson found the woman’s purse. The keys were in the ignition and the car was still in Drive.
Believing the woman’s son was involved, Anderson spoke with the mom who agreed. Because her son had already left for school, she called a School Resource Officer who spoke with her son.
According to the report, the 15-year-old boy admitted he took and wrecked the car.
At last report, the mom was on her way to the school then she was going to the Juvenile Office. She reportedly did not want to file charges.
