Call for prayers leads to call for police

On Thursday Jonesboro police were called to St. Bernard’s Medical Center after a woman says her 72-year-old stepmother threatened to shoot her.

According to Officer Scott Byrd’s initial report, the fracas started over a “religious disagreement.”

The victim’s father was about to undergo surgery, so the family decided to say a prayer for him.  The alleged victim said her stepmother has “different religious beliefs…and would not pray with them.”

The two women had words, according to the report, which led to them “threatening each other.”

At one point the stepmother reportedly told her stepdaughter she would “blow her brain out” then reached into her purse as if she were retrieving a gun.

The officer checked both women’s purses and found no weapons.

The women were separated and advised of the affidavit process if they wanted to pursue charges.
