JPD: Man says he "forgot" about pot in his pants

Jonesboro police say 24-year-old Allen Trice apparently “forgot” he had a bag of marijuana hidden in his pants.

According to Officer Blake Easley, at 11 p.m. Tuesday he stopped a Chevy Trailblazer on Scott Street after noticing the driver, 21-year-old Bryson M. Young, was not wearing a seat belt.  Easley reported he also knew Young had a suspended license.

When asked why he was driving on a suspended license, Young reportedly told Easley his mother didn’t like him to be out late driving around with him and “his homeboys.”

In his initial police report, Easley said he could “smell the strong odor of marijuana.” He also reported Young and Trice both “appeared nervous,” adding that Young was “more polite than usual.”

After taking Young into custody for Driving on Suspended Driver’s License-DWI Admin, Officer Easley then patted Trice down for weapons.

He reported Trice “appeared to be very stiff and didn’t seem to want to spread his legs more than about 6-inches or so.”

Trice reportedly told Officer Easley he couldn’t spread his legs further because he had been in a “bad wreck” that had broken his hip.

After Trice spread his legs another inch or so, Easley reported he pulled up Trice’s shorts and “gave them a couple of shakes.”  The officer said he then located a small sack of marijuana in Trice’s underwear.  Trice reportedly said “he forgot that it was down there.”

Officer Easley took Trice into custody for Possession of a Controlled Substance-Misdemeanor and then asked Trice if he was hiding anything else.  At that point, Trice reportedly said he “may have a little bit more weed in his shoe.”

After Trice removed his shoes and socks, Officer Easley said he found a plastic baggie containing suspected crack cocaine.  According to his report, Trice said he found the crack in the Valero parking lot and put it in his sock.

Trice and Young were both taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.  Trice was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance-Misdemeanor.  He was given a probable cause bond and court date.

Young was cited for No Seatbelt and Driving on Suspended-DWI Admin.  He is being held in lieu of $630 bond.
