Quick trip to Walmart ends with mom cited for child endangerment

Sunday evening Jonesboro police charged a Monette woman with child endangerment after they say she left her two young children, ages 3 and 7, in a parked car with the engine running.

Just before 7:30 p.m. Officer Ron Marsh reported he was called to Walmart, 1815 E. Highland, regarding two children in a car.

Shortly after he arrived at the scene, Marsh said the 30-year-old mom came out of the store.  She told Officer Marsh she had been in the store “for just a moment” and had left the children in the car to “finish eating their food.”

Officer Marsh contacted a Department of Human Services (DHS) worker who said it was okay for the mom to retain custody of the children.  Marsh then cited and released the woman.  She was given a court date of October 17.

A copy of Officer Marsh’s initial report was then faxed to the DHS Child Abuse Hotline.
