Police find suspect hiding in attic

A man wanted by Jonesboro police on two felony warrants was found hiding in an attic.

On Monday, Officer John Hughes reported he went to a home in the 300-block of Joy Lane in an attempt to locate 30-year-old Marques Allen Johnson.

Johnson’s girlfriend denied he was at the house and said she had not seen the suspect in weeks.  Hughes said he asked to search the house, but the woman refused.

While watching the house “to make sure Johnson did not try to sneak out,” Hughes reported hearing “a lot of banging around in the residence.”

After other officers arrived at the scene, Hughes again asked the woman if he could search the house and she gave her assent.

While searching the home, Hughes reported seeing the crawl space to the attic was open and the frame was broken.  He also said he found pieces of insulation on the floor.

Hughes removed the crawl space with his baton and ordered Johnson to show his hands.

After several minutes, Johnson finally appeared.  He was removed from the attic and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.

According to the incident report, Johnson was discovered with two grams of methamphetamine “ice” worth $200.  He was charged with felony delivery of methamphetamine or cocaine.
