Jonesboro woman accused of being drunk in court | Crime
A Jonesboro woman faces contempt of court charges after police say she appeared before a judge drunk.
According to the police report, an officer noticed 48-year-old Connie Jones “swaying from side to side” as she walked into District Court at 9:15 Wednesday morning.
Jones reportedly sat down on the front row, where she continued to “sway back and forth.” A short while later the officer said Jones got up and went outside. As she was reentering the courtroom, the officer reported he could “smell a strong odor of intoxicants coming from her person.”
The officer informed the judge that Jones appeared to be intoxicated. The judge asked the officer to administer a preliminary breath test (PBT). According to the officer’s initial report, Jones gave a sample of .36 on the PBT.
When asked if she had been drinking, Jones reportedly said she had “two shots before coming to court.”
Jones was arrested on charges of public intoxication and contempt of court. She was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.
