Police arrest three on drug charges | Crime

A traffic stop Thursday afternoon ended with three area women behind bars.

According to the initial police report, Jonesboro police stopped 37-year-old Shelly Copeland of Paragould when she failed to signal a turn at Main and Johnson.

When asked if she had anything illegal in her vehicle, Copeland reportedly told the officer she did not and gave consent to search her 2010 Chevy HHR.

During the search, the officer reported finding a pill bottle with the label torn off.  Inside were three xanax, six somas and 11 hydrocodone, according to the incident report.

While searching the vehicle another officer reported finding .25 grams of methamphetamine inside a pack of cigarettes belonging to the front-seat passenger, 33-year-old Maria Estrada of Bono.  The officer also said he found a needle and a spoon with residue inside Estrada’s jacket. 

Officers also found a meth pipe with residue in the “seatback of the front passenger seat in front of the rear seat” where 37-year-old Keatra Loyd of Jonesboro was sitting.  According to the report, after initially lying about her name, officers learned she was wanted on several outstanding warrants.

All three women were taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where Copeland was charged with possession without a prescription.  Her bond was set at $770.

Estrada was charged with possession of a controlled substance-meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.  A hold was also placed on her for a warrant in Poinsett County.  At last report she was awaiting a probable cause hearing.

Loyd was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as one failure to appear warrant and 11 non-payment warrants.  She was giving a cash-only bond of $3,443.  A hold was also placed on her for the Brookland Police Department and the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office.
