JPD: Man stole gas and car | Crime
Jonesboro police say 28-year-old Timothy Dale Allen not only stole a tank of gas from a local convenience store, he also stole the car he filled up.
Monday morning officers were dispatched to Kum & Go, 3418 E. Johnson, regarding a man who had filled up a blue Nissan Sentra then drove away.
A clerk described the man as being a slender white man wearing a red jacket.
Officer Andy Gossett reported spotting a man matching the description standing behind the car at Carr’s Groceries at Johnson and North Caraway.
When Gossett approached the man, later identified as Allen, he ran behind the store. A witness saw Allen run from the officer and stopped him.
Allen, who is a felon on probation, was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where he was charged with theft of motor fuel and fleeing. Both misdemeanors.
Later, Allen was charged with a felony.
Monday night Officer Jeremy Wheelis was called to a car theft in the 1100-block of Cottonbelt.
According to the officer’s initial report, the victim said on Sunday he had left his blue Nissan Sentra at his uncle’s shop to be repaired.
While investigating the theft, dispatch told Wheelis the car was the one Allen was driving when he was arrested earlier that day.
Allen was then charged with felony theft o f a vehicle.
