JPD: Man crashes through store door trying to steal TV | Crime
Jonesboro police arrested 42-year-old Robert Wolf of Lake City after they say he tried to steal a $548 flat-screen LED television from Walmart, 1911 West Parker Road, and wound up crashing through the front door.
According to Officer Nicholas Holley’s initial report, just after 7:30 Sunday night a store employee saw Wolf grab the 50-inch TV off a shelf and walk to the front registers. After “pacing around,” Wolf then walked between two closed checkout counters and attempted to leave the store without paying for the TV.
When the employee confronted Wolf he “took off running and ran through the sliding glass doors,” according to Officer Holley’s report, causing several metal pieces at the top of the doors to break off.
Wolf then ran across U.S. Highway 63 and onto the parking lot of Big Lots, 1907 Woodsprings Road, where Officer Holley arrested him.
After detecting a “strong odor of intoxicants” on Wolf, Officer Holley reportedly had Wolf blow into a portable breath tester. Wolf registered a .16, according to the arrest report.
While being transported to the Craighead County Detention Center, Officer Holley said Wolf “repeatedly admitted that he knew he was wrong for trying to steal the TV” and that Holley “should just let him go.”
Wolf was charged with shoplifting, criminal mischief and public intoxication. He was also permanently banned from all Walmart stores.
