Woman tells police pot plants were for "medical purposes"

On November 6 Arkansas voters rejected a measure to legalize medical marijuana in the state.

But, Jonesboro police say that didn’t stop a 62-year-old woman from growing her own.

Officers arrested Carole Ann French on possession of drug paraphernalia and manufacture of a Schedule VI controlled substance, after they say they found 13 marijuana plants in her home.

On Thursday, while serving warrants at French’s home in the 400-block of Flint, officers said they discovered the plants in the basement.

As she was being taken into custody French reportedly told officers, “I just grow for personal use, for medical purposes.  I don’t sell or anything.”

In addition to the pot plants, officers said they also found grow lights, timers and plant food.
