Vandals leave their marks at 2 local churches | Crime
Cleaning crews were busy Monday at two Jonesboro churches after police say vandals spray-painted profanities and sacrilegious statements on the sides of the buildings.
According to the initial police reports, vandals struck the Highland Drive Baptist Church, 515 E. Highland, and St. Timothy’s Anglican Church, 419 W. Highland, sometime overnight Sunday.
An employee at Highland Drive Baptist Church discovered the damage around 8:30 Monday morning. The vandals reportedly wrote “Devil’s House” in spray paint on the Northwest wall and “F—You, God” on the parking lot. According to the police report, it appeared the suspect/s attempted to write more, but crossed it out.
Due to their close proximity, Officer Dustin Campbell checked with Trinity Church and the Church of Latter-Day Saints. No vandalism was reported at either church.
Approximately two hours later, Jonesboro police were called to a similar case of vandalism at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church.
Father Ronald Martin said when he went to take out the trash he discovered a pentagram and the words “The Devil’s House” and “Ask Why?” spray painted on the back of the church.
Extra patrol has been requested.
