Thieves steal $4,000 worth of copper from home site

Workers building a new home are having to do double-duty after crooks stole thousands of dollars worth of copper wire from the construction site.

The theft occurred sometime between 6 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Monday in the 600-block of West Lawson, according to Officer Joshua Beasley’s initial report.

Olen Fitts, construction manager for Gillis Construction, told Beasley the wiring had just been installed; but, it “was now cut from the boxes.”

As many as 41 rolls of wire had been taken from the site.  The loss was estimated at $3,930.

At this time, there are no suspects.
