Traffic stop lands 3 in jail on drug charges | Crime
A traffic stop Monday morning landed three people in the Craighead County Detention Center on drug charges.
Joanna R. Saunders, 24, of Jonesboro; Tosha M. Ramsey, 31; and Dewarren Walker, 28, both of Harrisburg were arrested following a stop on Arkansas State Highway 1 South, just north of the Lawson Road intersection.
According to Officer Heath McEntire’s initial report, a canine unit made a “positive alert” on the vehicle for drugs. When officers searched the car, they reportedly found a small plastic baggie containing suspected methamphetamine between the driver’s seat and the center console.
All three suspects were taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance.
While two other officers searched the suspects’ car, Saunders reportedly admitted she had more narcotics hidden in her “private area.”
At the CCDC, both women reportedly received a “more complete search of the persons.”
Jailers told Officer McEntire they found and removed from Saunders’ vaginal cavity “1.1 grams of marijuana packaged in a clear small plastic baggie, one blue glass tube or pipe containing a white powder residue, and metal container, key chain containing 14 small bags of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.” Jailers also said they found $419 cash concealed in her bra.
When jailers searched Ramsey they reportedly found a “cigarette wrapper containing one small pink or peach-colored pill believed to be xanax, a clear plastic sandwich baggie containing 12 smaller clear plastic baggies containing a small crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.”
Also logged into evidence, according to the officer’s report, was a set of digital scales, a small plastic baggie containing suspected meth and a box of sandwich bags.
In addition to the drug charge, Ramsey was issued a citation for no proof of liability insurance. Saunders was cited for violating the Arkansas seat belt law. Walker was also charged with a felony failure to appear warrant.
A probable cause hearing for Ramsey, Saunders and Walker was set for Wednesday, February 6.
