JPD: Accused shoplifter arrested after fighting store workers

What started out as a case of shoplifting ended with a woman in jail on robbery charges.

Lisa Freeman, 46, of Jonesboro is accused of taking $9 worth of candy bars and a 15-cent package of ramen noodles from Kroger, 1525 S. Caraway.

According to the initial police report, the store manager witnessed Freeman put the items into her backpack.  When he and another employee approached Freeman, they say she took the items and threw them onto a shelf and started running.

The two men chased Freeman to the store’s lobby where she reportedly “began fighting with them.”

Freeman then followed the two men to the office where she again began fighting and hitting them, according to the report.

During questioning, Freeman told police she was not trying to fight; instead, she said she was “only trying to fix her jacket.”

Freeman was arrested on a felony charge of robbery.  She was taken to the Craighead County Detention where she is being held awaiting a probable cause hearing on Monday, February 25.
