AMMC to host blood drive | Events

Arkansas Methodist Medical Center is sponsoring a blood drive on Thursday, June 7, from noon until 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium in the Professional Office Building in Paragould.

According to the American Red Cross, one in 10 people entering a hospital needs blood. 

Blood transfusions are used for trauma victims due to accidents and burns; heart surgery; organ transplants; women with complications during childbirth; newborns and premature babies receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer and other diseases. 

At AMMC alone, approximately 100 units are transfused monthly.

To give blood you must be:

• At least 16 years old
• Weigh at least 110 pounds
• Not have donated whole blood in the last 8 weeks (56 days) or double red cells in the last 16 weeks (112 days)

Donors will be eligible to win a Gibson guitar, courtesy of the Gibson Foundation.  The American Red Cross will award multiple guitars and 50,000 guitar picks.  In addition, anyone who donates blood will receive a rock and roll themed t-shirt. 

Donors ages 16-21 may also enter to win a $5,000 scholarship for future education costs. 

All donors will receive three $5 coupons to be used at AMMC’s Auxiliary Gift Shop, Beacon’s Deli, cafeteria or the Foundation Station.
