Celebrate Mother's Day at outdoor women's workshop

Mother's Day is Sunday, May 12.  This year, celebrate it with a little girl power time!

Learn skills practiced by Parkin females of the past at a workshop tailored specifically for today’s women.

Activities will include fire starting, clay digging, pottery making, Dutch Oven cooking (which will result in lunch) and more.

Find out how women lived day to day throughout time and learn a few new skills yourself. 

Get your girlfriends and mothers together and come be an outdoor woman Mothers’ Day Weekend!

The town of Piggott is gearing up for the 15th Annual Piggott Heritage Park Car Show which will be held Friday through Sunday, May 17-19.

The events begin Friday evening with a chicken wing dinner followed by karaoke in the Heritage Park amphitheater.

On Saturday morning the Piggott Lions Club will once again serve up a $5 pancake breakfast at the Piggott Community Center.  That afternoon participants will be treated to a pork steak dinner before the cruise to downtown.

Rainy weather and the threat of even more has put a damper on the Hispanic Celebration scheduled for tomorrow.

The celebration has been postponed until Saturday, May 18, on the ASU campus.

Event organizers say they’ll release more details as they become available.

St. Bernards to hold Lunch & Learn on stroke awareness

 

Stroke is a leading cause of death and serious long-term disability in the United States.

It also affects different people in different ways.

On Friday, May 10, St. Bernards invites you to have lunch with them while learning about stroke awareness and prevention.

Chris Spangler, occupational therapist with St. Bernards, will present “Different Strokes for Different Folks.”  During the program he will discuss different types of strokes and the different kinds of rehabilitation needs for those who have suffered strokes.

UPDATE: Hoxie FD bass tournament postponed

The Hoxie Volunteer Fire Department's 11th Annual Bass Tournament, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed due to inclement weather.

Department officials tell Your Region 8 the tournament will be held sometime this fall.

They will announce the new date at a later time.

Dr. Steven Lewis to read Stories in the Forest

 

Dr. Steven Lewis, obstetrician/gynecologist with St. Bernards OB-GYN Associates, will serve as reader for the May Stories in the Forest this Saturday, May 4.

At 3 p.m. he will be at the St. Bernards Fun Forest at the Mall at Turtle Creek reading Pirate Pete’s Talk Like a Pirate by Kim Kennedy and one of the books in the Splat the Cat series by Rob Scotton.

Parents are invited to come out and enjoy some quality time with their children.

Tonight's Art and Stroll postponed

Tonight's Art and Stroll postponed

 

Because of the increased chance of rain, tonight’s Art and Stroll in downtown Paragould has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 9.

The extension means five more artists have committed to the show.  Among those expected to display their artworks are students from Paragould Jr. High, Black River, Greene County Tech and the NEA Home School Association. 

According to an email from Gina Jarrett of Main Street Paragould, many artists are new to A&S this year, including Memphis artist Billy Moore and his folk artworks.
