Cardiologist joins St. Bernards Heart and Vascular

 

St. Bernards Heart and Vascular (formerly Cardiology Associates) welcomes Dr. Anil Kumar to its staff.

According to a news release from St. Bernards Healthcare, the cardiologist comes to Jonesboro following a fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.  Before that he spent three years serving an internal medicine residency at New York Medical College, South Shore Medical Center of Westchester in New Rochelle, NY.

NEA Baptist Clinic wants you to be one in a million.  They also want you to be heart healthy.

The clinic will be providing free cholesterol and blood pressure screenings, as well as a free meal, at the Million Hearts Luncheon on Thursday, February 28.

The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Southwest Church of Christ.  The featured speaker will be Dr. Michael Isaacson, NEA Baptist Clinic Cardiologist.

Complimentary luncheon tickets are available at the NEA Baptist Clinic Corporate Office, located at 1835 Grant Street in Jonesboro.

Dr. Arroyo returns to Jonesboro

 

Dr. Max Arroyo, cardiologist who practiced in Jonesboro from 2007 to 2011, has completed advanced training in interventional cardiology and has rejoined the medical staff at St. Bernards Heart and Vascular (formerly Cardiology Associates).

He earned his M.D. from Universidad Autonoma de Ciencias Medicas de Centroamerica in San Jose, Costa Rica. He served an internal medicine residency at State University New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.

According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds someone in America needs blood.  Just one pint of donated blood has the potential to help three or four people.

To help meet the demand, the Red Cross and the Jonesboro campus of Arkansas State University-Newport will hold a blood drive Friday, February 8, from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Donors must be 17 years or older, be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and have not given blood in 56 days.

United Way of Northeast Arkansas will kick off its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program this Saturday, February 2, with the 4th Annual CA$H event.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.at St. Bernards Auditorium, 505 E. Washington in Jonesboro.

According to the United Way, more than $4 million in EITC are never claimed by workers in the Jonesboro area.  Anyone who earns less than $50,270 from wages, self-employment or farming may be eligible.  EITC varies by income, family size and filing status.

Learn to live well with diabetes at free AMMC event

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 10 Americans has Type 2 diabetes.  If the current trends continue, the CDC predicts 1 in 3 people will have the disease by 2050.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, January 31, Arkansas Methodist Medical Center will host Living Well with Diabetes.

The program will feature hearty meal ideas by AMMC Certified Diabetes Educator Pat Malone, RN.  Ellen Rogers, a Type 1 diabetes patient, will speak about her journey over the last few years.
