Jonesboro woman makes explosive discovery | News
A Jonesboro widow made an explosive discovery while cleaning her late husband’s office.
Police say she found a live hand grenade.
According to the police report, the 65-year-old woman was going through her late husband’s belongings Wednesday when she found the grenade on a shelf.
Officer Steve Richardson said it was an older “pineapple” grenade, “complete with a fuse head, spoon and cotter-type pull pin”
Richardson said the bottom had not been drilled, which indicated that it was still “live.”
What’s more, the bottom of the spoon was painted flat black. Richardson said he remembered from his Army service that the color indicated that the grenade was a “combat round rather than a practice round.”
Officers contacted the Arkansas State Police bomb squad which referred them to the U.S. Army which agreed to pick up the explosive device.
