Cooper announces candidacy for vacant state senate seat | News
Republican John Cooper announced Friday his candidacy for the District 21 State Senate seat recently vacated by Paul Bookout.
Cooper, who was already a candidate for Arkansas state representative, said in an email to Region 8 News he is “prepared to transfer all previous campaign activity to the race for senate.”
The Jonesboro resident acknowledged the “short time frame” to fill the vacancy, but said he is “ready to begin a campaign focused on issues facing our area and state.”
On Tuesday, Bookout resigned after the Arkansas Ethics Commission reported he spent thousands of dollars of campaign funds on women's clothing, golf clubs and a home theater.
