Man accused in Jonesboro arson enters guilty plea | News

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The man accused of setting a home on fire after breaking into it, pleads guilty in court Monday.
According to the Craighead County Prosecutor's Office, 30-year-old Brandon Kapales pleaded guilty to arson Monday, and was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
Police say on February 5, the Jonesboro Police and Fire Department responded to a burglary call at a house located in the 2000 block of Village Drive. When police arrived at the home and noticed smoke coming from the house. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly and saved most of the structure, but the fire rekindled again around 1:30 a.m., destroying the home.
Kapales was arrested for the crime 6 days later in Poinsett County.
Then on May 11, Jonesboro Police say Kapales shot an unidentified 23-year-old woman in the leg in 1100 block of West Jefferson. Police say he also set a vehicle on fire in the same area. Police say they have connected the two incidents.
Kapales pleaded guilty to arson and was sentenced to 24 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.
