JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - It was a packed house at the Crowley's Ridge Nature Center Saturday afternoon.
Kids and adults picked out their paint colors and gourds to create "Gourdeous" Birdhouses free of charge. All the supplies were furnished as part of the 1/8 cent Conservation Sales Tax.
Most kids at the Nature Center agreed the best part about Saturday's event was getting to paint. Zarius and Cedric said they hope a lot of birds will get to enjoy their gourd-houses.
"We will put food inside the hole," Cedric said, "but first we'll clean the birdhouses out so there can be more room for the birds."
Event coordinator, Lee Elkins said this event draw in a large crowd every year.
"They get to take these birdhouses, which is the most natural cavity nesting that you can get," Elkins said.
Elkins told Region 8 News that she hopes the event will spark an interest in nature for all generations.
This is the third year the event has taken place and over 450 people showed up. It lasted from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
