JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Don Riggs Memorial Gym at Jonesboro High School drew a large crowd Saturday for the 15th Annual Open Martial Arts Championship.
Competitors from six different states converged upon the gym for the competition. Different age groups as well as divisions of martial arts were able to take part in the event.
The Joey Perry Martial Arts Academy put on the event. Perry said the lessons children learn through martial arts are invaluable.
"We get parents coming up and thanking us for the confidence we're giving the kids and the good energy," Perry said. "You can see everybody is happy, being respectful. You get 'yes ma'am, no ma'am' and manners and that's just what everyone is teaching the children."
Perry said the event has grown each year it's been in place. This year, over 300 competitors took part.
