Fowler family gives $1M to ASU-Newport hospitality program
JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas State University-Newport has received a $1 million gift for its hospitality program.
The university announced the gift Wednesday from the Fowler family. The Jonesboro Sun reports (http://is.gd/yKNpyC ) that half the money will go toward scholarships while the other half will be used to support the hospitality program at ASU-Newport.
The two-year school is building a facility in Jonesboro for its hospitality students. The building, which will be located in the Jonesboro Industrial Park, will include 3,300 square feet of a commercial kitchen.
The school will offer a one-year certificate for students who want to learn more about the food or management sides of the food business and a two-year associate's degree focusing on the restaurant, motel and other hospitality fields.
