SUV hits child on bicycle, parked truck

Jonesboro police say a six-year-old girl was taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon after she was hit by an SUV while riding her bicycle.

The accident happened at 4 p.m. at the Garden Manor apartments, according to the initial police report.

Kimberly King, 34, told police she was traveling through the parking lot when the child crossed in front of her Hyundai Santa Fe.

King said she swerved to avoid hitting the girl, but her SUV struck the bike’s rear wheel before hitting a parked Dodge Ram pickup truck.

According to the police report, the child received “minor scratches and bruises on her arms and legs, and had a bump on her forehead.”  She was taken by her mother to St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center to be checked out.

King and her three-year-old passenger were not injured.

She was ticketed for No Proof of Insurance and given an October 24 court date.
